the audacity

Today I was introduced to a program called Audacity. The program reminded of a not -so flashy Garage Band. Once I learned my way around the program, it was fairly easy and fun to use. This would make for a great project idea in the classroom, however I feel it may be a bit complicated and unnecessary to demand that students use this program. I like the idea of having students create podcast as a type of presentation variation to power point or poster boards. However i'd probably only over it as a suggestion that they use audacity not a requirement.

  1. I too think that it would be a fun assignment for kids in the classroom. I think it might be difficult at first, (as it was for some students in our class) but after using it a few times they would more likely than not get used to it. As a teacher we could also make copies of the program for those students who were interested in using it at home. Almost every child likes music and with that - the possibilities are endless for what they can do with Audacity.

  2. I, a most unmusical, untechnical person, thoroughly enjoyed learning about Audacity, but my one concern would be the amount of time spent "off task," that is, the amount of time I'd need to digress from English instruction to teach software. However, I think it's great as a way to offer options for different types of intelligences / learning styles when assigning long term projects. Kids could get very creative and really feel that they've been allowed to put their own unique stamp on an academic assignment.
