It was about time that I finally learned more about Smartboards other than they are really cool and really expensive. Above all I was totally amazed at seeing the video of how you can make a smart board using a wii remote. I finally have a use for those Wiimotes now that my boyfriend has lost his wii (yes he lost the console and not the remotes, been missing for a year now too). After showing the Youtube video to my sister, it wasn't long before she was inspired to try it out as a science project.
Besides learning about the best of school technologies, I also experienced the worst of technology. This was in the form of error messages and files misbehaving (at least in my opinion). I learned the hard way that what may seem rational and logical may not necessarily be the case once it comes to saving, transferring and uploading.
Finally got the podcast redone...

It certainly can be very frustrating and time consuming at times. Unfortunately, it is hard to live without it now.
ReplyDeleteWith regard to your podcast, I thought the idea of using Obama for the cross-disciplinary requirement was brilliant! I like how you juxtaposed the MLK speech with Obama's. During Andrea's segment, I at first couldn't understand what the music clip had to do with Obama, but by the end, when I heard Obama's name clearly in the lyrics, I made the connection. I understand Spanish minimally, and for a non-fluent student, it might have been helpful to mention what the song was about. I also think maybe the music could have been a little lower while you were speaking over it, it was a little hard to hear what you were saying. I did like learning about the Hispanic perspective on the election-- I think it was grossly under-represented during the campaign.
ReplyDeleteCheryl, I liked your commentary about what it was like on the New Paltz campus on election night. It would have been great if you could have spliced in some comments from college students in other schools--what was going on nationwide that night? I enjoyed the podcast, sorry it was such a technical hassle!
I agree with you that it is definitely about time that we learned how to use the smartboards! The error messages are going to occur with any program that involves a computer, so I have realized how important it is to plan ahead and make sure that everything works out before the lesson.
